The Buddhist Council of New South Wales

Homepage: http://www.buddhistcouncil.org/

Our vision is for a “Dharma Community with Open Arms”. Buddhism varies in its practice from country to country, from tradition to tradition, and from teacher to teacher. The Buddha himself recognised that the vehicle for his Dharma teaching would adapt and change over time and in different places. A Dharma Community brings all Buddhist traditions and schools together. While respecting the distinct value and heritage of each tradition, a Dharma Community emphasises the essence of the Buddha’s teaching which is common to all Buddhist schools and traditions. The Buddhist Council of NSW therefore encourages all Buddhist groups, temples and societies to come together to appreciate each other through the essence of the Dharma itself.

Tzu Chi Foundation

The Tzu Chi Foundation is a non-profit organization founded in 1966 by Dharma Master Cheng Yen in the impoverished east coast of Taiwan. The Foundation has been contributing to better social and community services, medical care, education and humanism in Taiwan for nearly 40 years. Master Cheng Yen firmly believes that suffering in this world is caused by material deprivation and spiritual poverty. She felt that "lack of love for others" has been the root of many problems in this world. "To save the world, we must begin by transforming human hearts."

A volunteer-based, spiritual as well as welfare organization, Tzu Chi’s missions focus on giving material aid and inspiring love and humanity in both the givers and receivers. Since its founding, the Foundation has dedicated itself in the field of charity, medicine, education, environmental protection, as well as the promotion of humanistic values and community volunteerism. The humanitarian work is both a means to help those in need, and also a way to open the eyes of the volunteer to the harsher side of life, so that through giving, they may find spiritual happiness and life's true meaning.

Acts of Kindness

Homepage: http://www.actsofkindness.org.au/

A website for the purpose of encouraging more acts of kindness. Each year in the month of May, Buddhists come together to celebrate Vesak, to recognise the life and the teachings of the Buddha who lived more than 2500 years ago in Northern India. The Buddha taught a peaceful and compassionate way of living. What better way to celebrate the Buddha's life and teachings than to multiply acts of kindness. We invite you to contribute any act of kindness that you have performed, received, or observed.

Sharing your act of kindness can encourage others. By celebrating and putting a spotlight on acts of kindness, we become more aware of the benefits of kindness for ourselves and others. The more we think about kindness, the more we use kindness in our words and actions. To reach even more people, we intend to publish many of these heart-warming stories in a booklet called Acts of Kindness for free distribution.
